Steelers’ QB room in limbo as Aaron Rodgers’ decision looms

The Pittsburgh Steelers are currently awaiting the final decision from quarterback Aaron Rodgers on whether or not he is returning.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Rodgers is not expected to attend the Steelers’ mini-camp on Monday and second-year QB Will Howard is expected to throw instead.

Steelers owner Art Rooney said weeks ago that the team hoped to hear a decision from Aaron Rodgers by the NFL draft, but that deadline is getting closer with no word from Rodgers.

The team must now decide whether or not to take a quarterback in the draft. While that could send Rodgers the wrong message, there’s no guarantee that Rodgers returns anyways.

As of Monday, Pittsburgh’s QB room only consists of Howard and Mason Rudolph.

An experienced veteran like Rodgers fits what they need, but the draft is now just days away with no additional clarity regarding Rodgers’ status.

James Parker contributed to this story.
