New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh spoke to reporters after a minicamp practice on Saturday, providing an update on a potential reunion with wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
“Talked to Odell a lot, probably three of four times in the last week, [see] where he’s at, where we’re at,” Harbaugh said Saturday after a Giants rookie minicamp practice. “He’s in Arizona right now training and spending time with his son. The goal for right now is for him to train and get as ready as he can be. And then we’ll see where we’re at at that time.”
He went on to explain that while the he is keeping in contact with Beckham, a reunion isn’t a guarantee and the team still has its own needs.
“We have just such an honest conversation about it. It’s got to be right for both parties,” Harbaugh said. “Odell wants to be the kind of player that can make a difference. I’m pretty sure that he can make a team in the National Football League right now. But can he make a difference and is it something he wants to do and is his body going to hold up the way he wants it to?”
Beckham created a legacy in New York after being drafted by the Giants in 2014. He went on to make four Pro Bowls and two All-Pro teams in five seasons.
The Giants traded him to the Cleveland Browns in 2019 and he has since suffered two torn ACLs. Beckham was waived in 2021 before signing with the Los Angeles Rams and winning a Super Bowl that season.
After missing the 2022 season, he actually played under Harbaugh on the Baltimore Ravens in 2023. He last played for the Cleveland Browns in nine games in 2024.
At 33 years old, concerns remain about his age and injury history. With training camp in just over two months, it won’t be long until a decision is made on the potential reunion.
