Charlotte, NC — LaMelo Ball, the Charlotte Hornets superstar, has officially changed his jersey number from No. 2 to No. 1 for the 2022 NBA Season, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The 3rd pick in the 2020 NBA Draft spent two seasons wearing No. 2, paying homage to his older brother, Chicago Bulls guard Lonzo Ball.
Malik Monk, Sacramento King’s guard, donned the No. 1 jersey Ball’s rookie year; however, no player wore the number last season.
LaMelo Ball shined in the No. 2 jersey, winning Rookie of the Year in 2020-2021 and making an All-Star appearance in the 2021-2022 season.
Ball looks to continue elevating his play as he goes back to his high school number, No. 1.
Last season, at just 20 years old, Ball averaged 20.1 PPG, 6.7 RPG, and 7.6 APG.
