Donovan Mitchell takes blame after Cavs lose four straight games

Donovan Mitchell looks up at the scoreboard during a stoppage of play.

The Cleveland Cavaliers faced off against the Phoenix Suns on Friday night in what would become a double-digit loss and Cleveland’s fourth straight defeat. After a blowout loss to a team that’s fighting for a play-in spot, Cavs star guard Donovan Mitchell casted the blame on himself.

“Put this one on me,” Mitchell said. “When your leader ain’t doing sh**, this is what happens. Yeah, we have to guard better and rebound, sh** like that. But if I’m not being who I need to be, then we’re not going to get where we want.”

After putting together an incredible 16-game winning streak over a five-week span, the Cavaliers have dropped the last four games against opponents that should have been considered weaker.

Luckily for Cleveland, the rest of the regular season schedule is against solid or middle-of-the-pack teams like the Trailblazers and Bulls.

Despite the struggles, Mitchell knows that four games don’t define a season and that he has the support of his teammates.

“They always have my back,” Mitchell said. “That’s the best thing about this group. We’re tight-knit. They definitely won’t put this won me, and I appreciate that.”

While a losing streak like this may be unfamiliar territory for this Cavs squad, there’s no reason to believe they won’t get back on track come playoff time.
