Brian Windhorst says LeBron James ‘doesn’t owe him anything’

ESPN Insider Brian Windhorst has been caught in the crossfire of LeBron James‘ recent critique of the media and the feud between James and Stephen A. Smith that followed. While Windhorst has known James for over 25 years and never made critical or backhanded comments about the four-time champion, James accused him of misrepresenting why he signed a contract with Nike.

Unlike his colleague, Windhorst responded with maturity and grace during an appearance on ESPN Cleveland.

“LeBron doesn’t owe me anything. I owe him a lot. He has been a great friend to my hometown and my alma mater. That I would stand on. Anything else, I would never say or never stand on,” Windhorst said.

Windhorst has been covering James his entire career and usually in a much more positive manner than the majority of his peers. Regardless, James felt irked by the misrepresentation and called Windhorst out for it.

As James said, he doesn’t seem to be best friends with Windhorst, but at least they appear to be on more civil terms.
