It’s been roughly four weeks since Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal underwent a new experimental procedure to remove loose bodies from his left elbow.
The team confirmed on Friday that he’ll make his first rehab start on Sunday, a major sign that he could be ready to return for the Tigers soon.

Due to weather concerns, he’ll make his first start with the team’s single-A affiliate in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
“He’s gonna go on rehab and pitch on Sunday in West Michigan,” Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said. “It’s weather-related. Looks pretty nasty in Iowa, looks pretty nasty in Richmond. Looks great in Grand Rapids.”
Most pitchers need around three months to recover from the standard procedure that targets loose bodies, but Skubal’s new procedure was less invasive and utilized a small camera on the end of a needle-like device.
With growing trade speculation amid the Tigers’ ugly stretch, all eyes will be on Skubal as he ramps up to make his return.
