Kendrick Perkins says Lakers would be willing to trade LeBron

LeBron James dribbling up the open court

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is by far the most popular player in the NBA and a large part of basketball discourse revolves around him. One thing we rarely hear however, is the idea of a team trading away LeBron. ESPN analyst and former NBA player Kendrick Perkins believes the Lakers might be willing to do so if James requested it.

“My sources tell me that if LeBron James at any point comes out and says that he wants to be traded or he wants to entertain it, they’re going to entertain it. It ain’t no holding him back,” Perkins said Tuesday on ESPN’s “First Take”.

Through the first quarter of the season, injuries and shooting woes are causing them to struggle as they have a 13-11 record, which is good enough for eighth place in the Western Conference. Even with a stacked conference, the Lakers have not met expectations that most had for them this season.

While he’s still playing at an unprecedented level for his age, James’ defensive numbers are below average at best and the Lakers seem to be in a similar situation as the last few seasons.

With the trade deadline slowly approaching, we can expect to see the Lakers engage in talks with various teams, whether or not those talks will be about LeBron James is yet to be seen.
