At 1:15 p.m. MLB announced via X that Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander will retire at the conclusion of the 2026 season.

The three-time Cy Young winner and 22-year-veteran is undoubtably set for Cooperstown.

The 43-year-old from Manakin Sabot, Virginia has strung together one of the greatest careers of any pitcher.

He currently sits at 266 wins and 3,554 strikeouts with a career ERA of 3.33, a WHIP of 1.136 and a WAR of 81.8.

His 3,554 strikeouts put him eight all-time, just 20 behind Dodger’s Hall of Famer Don Sutton.

Through his career, he secured nine All-Star appearances, three Cy-Youngs, two World Series titles, two ERA titles, an MVP, Rookie of The Year and the Triple Crown as well as stringing together three no-hitters.

He’ll be set to join fellow future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw, who retired following the Dodgers World Series title in 2025.

Following Verlander’s retirement, Max Scherzer will stand as the only active player remaining from the Tigers’ 2012 World Series roster.
