Former MLB pitcher and longtime coach Phil Regan has died at the age of 89, his attorney told ESPN’s Jeff Passan on Wednesday.

Regan made his MLB debut with the Detroit Tigers in 1960 and spent six seasons with the team before joining the Los Angeles Dodgers.

1966 was the best year of his career and his only All-Star selection. He went 14-1 that season while recording a career-low ERA of 1.62. He helped the Dodgers win the National League title that year before falling to the Baltimore Orioles in the World Series.

He spent the last portion of his career with the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox before retiring in 1972.

It wasn’t long until he got into coaching, becoming the head coach at Grand Valley State. Regan went on to spend the next 47 years coaching baseball for a number of teams at various levels.

He finished his career as a coach with the New York Mets in 2019.
