The Cincinnati Reds have placed slugger Eugenio Suarez on the injured list with a left oblique strain after being a late scratch on Friday, the team announced.
During batting practice before Friday’s matchup against the Detroit Tigers, Suarez complained of pain on his left side. Team manager Terry Francona said that’s when they moved forward with an MRI, which revealed a low-grade oblique strain.
“The hope is that after possibly five, six days – if symptoms are gone – we’ll get him imaged again and then start to build him back up. He’s going to be an IL,” Francona said.
In 25 games this season, Suarez is batting .231 with a .663 OPS, three home runs and 11 RBIs. Nathaniel Lowe was moved to DH in his spot on Friday and he went on to hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth.
