Dallas Mavericks

Kyrie Irving signs $119 million contract extension with Mavericks

Kyrie Irving isn’t going anywhere. He has signed a $119 million contract extension with the Dallas Mavericks.

Irving originally declined his $43 million player option with the Mavericks in favor of the $119 million contract extension. This is great news for Mavericks fans, as they hoped not to lose another star.

Irving averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 1.3 steals per game last season. Unfortunately, his year was cut short after suffering an ACL injury in March.

After the news broke of Irving’s extension, the 2016 NBA champion posted on X.

ESPN’s Shams Charania recently spoke to Irving about his future in Dallas.

“I spoke to Kyrie Irving just a few moments ago and he told me his decision to return and stay in Dallas was largely based on commitment,” Charania said. “Not only from him but the Mavericks as well and wanting to build a real legacy in Dallas.”

“Even more than that, his belief in this team’s ability when he’s healthy and whole again, potentially in January and February, and beyond over the next three years, to compete for a championship around him, Anthony Davis, soon to be No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg, and the leadership there, Jason Kidd, Nico Harrison and former owner Mark Cuban,” Charania added.

“This was a beneficial deal for both sides because the numbers that he’s signing for, it allows the Mavericks to have the taxpayer midlevel exception.”

Once Irving returns from his injury, if Anthony Davis can avoid the injury bug and with Cooper Flagg on the court, Dallas could be a real threat to winning multiple titles.
