19-year-old shortstop Konnor Griffin is now working to finalize a nine-year, $140 million deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates, per ESPN’s Buster Olney.
The new deal will shatter the record for the largest extension ever given to a player before making their official MLB debut.
Griffin is widely considered the best prospect in baseball after slashing .336/.420/.530 with 21 home runs and 68 stolen bases over 127 Minor League appearances.
These numbers will go down in the record books if his Minor League career ends up being over for good.
While the Pirates have yet to post publicly about the new deal, they shared a video to social media when they called him up to the MLB.
Griffin will reportedly make his debut in Friday’s home opener against the Baltimore Orioles and will likely receive a warm welcome from the Pirates fans in attendance.
