Gilbert Arenas has had his troubles both on and off the basketball court, yet, he understands the game. Arenas once explained how Utah Jazz legendary point guard John Stockton could have been even greater if he focused on scoring, thanks to his durability.

Arenas and Kenyon Martin once spoke about Stockton’s durability, as he’s played in all 82 games 16 out of his 19 seasons.

“Go and look up John Stockton, each season, how many games he played year in, year out. That’s why he has 15,000 assists,” Martin said. “Which nobody is going to touch. His durability and availability is outrageous.”

Arenas spoke about how much better Stockton would have been if he had focused on his scoring.

“I can tell you this, if he was a scorer, boy, he would have the scoring record,” Arenas said. “It’s one of those (records) that’s not gonna be broken.”

What makes Stockton’s durability more insane is that during his career, one of those seasons was the lockout-shortened 50-game season, where Stockton appeared in all 50 games. This means in his 19 years, Stockton played in every game during the season all but twice.

Talk about durability.
