The Toronto Blue Jays are having a disappointing season so far and it just got worse. MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson reported on Monday that pitcher Dylan Cease is headed to the injured list with a hamstring strain.

Team manager John Schneider confirmed the news after Cease left Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the fifth inning.

With Max Scherzer and Shane Bieber already on the injured list, the Blue Jays will now be forced to work with a thin bullpen until those guys can recover.

After an MRI, the team described Cease’s hamstring strain as mild.

So far this season, he has a  3.05 ERA with 92 strikeouts, the second-most Ks in baseball behind Milwaukee Brewers phenom Jacob Misiorowski.

His respectable pitching has not translated to team success. The Blue Jays sit at third in the American League East with a 25-28 record, less than eight months removed from a World Series appearance.
