Brewers pitcher Quinn Priester set to undergo season-ending surgery

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Quinn Priester is set to undergo thoracic outlet decompression and will miss the rest of the season, he announced on Thursday.

He’ll have the surgery, performed by Dr. Gregory Pearl, on Monday.

“We had gone through to try and fix this problem without surgery, we’ve just kind of gotten to a point where these things aren’t working,” Priester said. “So we’re going to go down on Monday and get surgery with Dr. Pearl, make sure we clean this issue up, so that the rest of my career, this isn’t an issue.”

Priester began this season battling symptoms of thoracic outlet syndrome, which impacts nerve function and blood flor around the neck and shoulders.

After attempting to rule out other causes and treat it without surgery, he made the difficult decision to get the procedure and end his season.

While this has contributed to his major struggles on the mound this season, he had a breakout campaign for the Brewers in 2025.

Last season, he had a 13-3 record with a 3.32 ERA across 157 innings.

He’ll now have to wait until 2027 to get back to his usual self. As he prepares to undergo the procedure, which involves removing a rib, he’s grateful for the medical advances that have made this treatment much more effective.

“Ten years ago this was a little bit more of a question mark,” Priester said. “But now as things progress like anything in the medical field, I feel really, really confident that we’re going to come back even better.”
