Charles Barkley rips Lakers’ plan for Bronny James

Charles Barkley speaking into his microphone while appearing on NBA TV

NBA legend Charles Barkley is known for being outspoken and making his thoughts clear. He recently did so recently during an appearance on the Bettor Angle, specifically when the L.A. Lakers and Bronny James were brought up in the conversation.

“This thing where he’s only gonna play home games? It’s stupid,” Barkley said. “It’s not fair to him. It’s not fair to the team. Can you imagine the coach of that team? You come off a road trip and there’s a player you ain’t seen in a week or two. And then you feel like you probably gotta play him. I don’t think they’re doing Bronny any favors and they just handled this thing really bad.”

Barkley is referring to the Lakers current plan of only having Bronny play in home games for the South Bay Lakers while also being present on the Lakers bench when those home games aren’t taking place.

Barkley may actually be correct about the negative impact of such a routine. It could be detrimental to the development of Bronny’s game to keep him out of a major portion of G-League outings, simply for the sake of allowing him to continue playing alongside his father, albeit very rarely.

It’s far too early to see the effects of this plan on Bronny’s development but as Barkley said, it certainly is not a great look.
