Duke’s Cayden Boozer set to return for sophomore season

Duke Blue Devils guard Cayden Boozer is set to return for his sophomore season, the team announced on Thursday.

Boozer is the son of former NBA star Carlos Boozer and the twin brother of Cameron Boozer, the reigning Wooden Award winner and projected top-three pick in the NBA draft.

Cayden, on the other hand, has opted to return to the Blue Devils next season, where his role will likely increase. He was a reserve to start the season but stepped up as a starter when Caleb Foster went down with a foot injury.

As the season rolled on, Boozer continued to show off elite playmaking and scoring. He went on the earn a spot on the ACC All-Tournament Second Team and played a big role in helping the Blue Devils reach the Elite Eight.

In that game against the UConn Huskies, Cayden had 15 points, six assists and five rebounds. But he made a crucial mistake in the final seconds and turned the ball over before Braylon Mullins sank a ridiculous three to stun the Blue Devils.

Ultimately, he averaged 7.7 points, 3.0 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game while shooting 50% from the floor in his freshman season. Those numbers are likely to improve in his sophomore campaign.

James Parker contributed to this story.
