Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel announced that Mike Boynton would be named the interim head coach of the basketball program.

The announcement comes just one day after previous head coach Dusty May left for the Dallas Mavericks job.

The Wolverines were coming off a national championship under May who went 64-13 in two seasons in Ann Arbor.

But Boynton brings experience leading a Division I program as he was previously the head coach at Oklahoma State for seven years. During that span, Boynton posted a 119-109 record with one NCAA Tournament birth coming in 2020-21 with the team led by future No.1 overall pick Cade Cunningham. Last season he joined Michigan overseeing the team’s defense.
