Knicks fans purchase nearly half of all tickets for Game 5 in San Antonio

The New York Knicks are one win away from their first NBA championship since 1973 and their fans appear to be coming out in droves for Game 5, even though it’s halfway across the country.

According to TickPick’s Kyle Zorn, upwards of 45% of tickets purchased for Saturday’s Game 5 matchup were purchased by fans in New York or New Jersey.

The report shows that less than 10% of ticket purchases for the game were made by fans with a Texas zip code.

In the wake of such drastic numbers, the Spurs are now attempting to restrict Game 5 ticket purchases to fans within a 150-mile radius of Frost Bank Center.

“Sales to this event will be restricted to customers residing within a 150-mile radius of Frost Bank Center,” a disclaimer on Ticketmaster reads. “Orders by residents outside of a 150-mile radius of Frost Bank Center will be canceled without notice and refunds given.”

Knicks fans have become notorious for their on-the-road takeovers of opposing arenas in the playoffs. With the Spurs on their heels down 3-2, New Yorkers seem determined to be in San Antonio for Game 5 on Saturday.
