Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George suffered a left knee hyperextension during Monday night’s preseason matchup against the Atlanta Hawks. Fortunately, NBA insider Shams Charania took to social media Tuesday evening with good news about the injury.
“Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George has a bone bruise and no structural damage to his left knee and will be re-evaluated in approximately one week,” Charania posted on X.

George will miss the remainder of the 76ers’ preseason, but given the nature of the hyperextension and his history of injuries, it’s a good sign that the MRI revealed no further damage to the joint. His status for the season opener is still up in the air, dependent on next week’s evaluation of his knee and how it’s feeling.
Following his early exit and the Sixers’ 25-point win over Atlanta, George seemed in good spirits. Sixers head coach Nick Nurse told reporters at Tuesday’s practice that “everything checked out OK” shortly before the MRI.
The nine-time All Star should be back to action soon, as Philadelphia looks to make a finals run with a revamped roster.
