The San Antonio Spurs are in a compromised position in the 2026 NBA Finals.
Despite holding a 29-point lead over the New York Knicks in Game 4 and looking poised to tie the series 2-2, they were on the wrong end of the largest single-game comeback in Finals history.

Now facing a 3-1 deficit, the Spurs will now attempt a comeback of their own. During Friday’s media day, Spurs star Victor Wembanyama said the entire team is rock-solid in their belief that they can win the next three games.
“Everybody knows we’re gonna do it… It’d be a mistake to waste our energy on multiple games,” he said. “It’s one game at a time.”
Wembanyama went on to tell reporters that the team has moved on from their collapse in Game 4.
“We’re very confident but yet again, I wouldn’t say it was so hard to like shake off,” he said. “But harder than any other game before, by far for sure but now we’re over it. It’s the playoffs. There’s no time to regret things for too long.”
Across NBA history, just one team has ever successfully completed a 3-1 comeback in the Finals.
LeBron James was the leader of that 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers squad that took down the 73-9 Golden State Warriors to win it all after going down 3-1.
The Spurs may not have a player that can replicate what James did in that series, but their unity and relentless approach are reason enough to believe this comeback isn’t out of the question.
