Tyrese Maxey calls out Joel Embiid in Sixers’ team meeting

Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey embrace after a game

Philadelphia 76ers star Tyrese Maxey reportedly called out fellow Sixer Joel Embiid in a team meeting for being late “for everything”. The meeting took place after Philadelphia’s loss to the Miami Heat on Monday in which Embiid finished with just 11 points and failed to attempt a single free throw.

According to ESPN, veteran guard Kyle Lowry called for the team meeting following the fourth-straight loss. Sources say Embiid accepted the feedback he received during the meeting and raised his own concerns about what the team is trying to execute.

Players reportedly asked the coaching staff to be coached harder and in return, the coaching staff asked the players to be more intentional and detailed during practice.

Maxey has been out since Nov. 7 with a strained hamstring, but he’s expected to return later this week.

The Sixers had arguably the best NBA offseason this summer and kept most of their key pieces while adding star power in Paul George. Unfortunately, injuries and lackluster play have been the story of their season so far.
