Newly released bodycam footage shows Tiger Woods expressing shock at his arrest in Florida last week after he crashed his SUV and officers concluded that he was driving under the influence.
Shortly after Woods clipped the back of a pickup truck’s trailer and flipped over on to its side, he seemingly failed a field sobriety test. He expressed confusion as he was handcuffed.
“I do believe your normal faculties are impaired, and you’re under an unknown substance, so at this time you’re under arrest for DUI,” Martin County Sheriff’s Deputy Tatiana Levenar said.
“I’m being arrested?” Woods asked in response.
Levenar responded with a swift “Yes, sir,” before placing him in a police vehicle.
Officers reportedly found two white pills in Woods’ pants pocket, later determined to be some form of hydrocodone.
Woods later passed a breathalyzer test but refused to give a urine sample.
The 50-year-old pleaded not guilty on to driving under the influence on Tuesday and released a statement later that night announcing that he is stepping away from golf to “seek treatment.”
Woods is the most popular golfer ever and one of the most globally recognized athletes of all time. While his career has been historic, he’s spent the last half-decade battling injuries.
It’s now unclear when or if he will return to professional golf.
