Tiger Woods fighting subpoena for prescription medication records

The legal team for Tiger Woods is now fighting a subpoena for the golf legend’s prescription drug records, according to Wednesday’s court filing.

Florida prosecutors are seeking a review of his prescription records in relation to his charges of with misdemeanor DUI, refusal to submit to a lawful test and distracted driving.

Woods’ attorney Douglas Duncan wrote in the motion that the subpoena would violate his client’s right to privacy.

“This right is admittedly not absolute should the State show the relevance of the records to its criminal investigation and thus warrant intrusion into Mr. Woods’ privacy,” Duncan wrote.

Woods has pleaded not guilty to the charges following the crash in which his SUV clipped the back of a trailer and flipped over on its side. No one was injured, but officers described Woods as lethargic and appearing to be impaired.

After he failed a sobriety test, two pills were found in his pocket before he was arrested.

Prosecutors are now seeking his full prescription records from the beginning of the year to March 27, the day of the crash. They are specifically seeking information on which medications were prescribed, their dosages and any warnings about driving while taking them.

In the days following the crash, Woods released a statement announcing that he’s stepping away from golf to seek treatment and focus on his health.

James Parker contributed to this story.
