Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant has played for four different teams, with the most playoff success coming during his three year tenure with the Golden State Warriors. They won back-to-back NBA championships in 2017 and 2018. They reached the finals again in 2019 before costly injuries to Durant and Klay Thompson essentially ended their hopes of a three-peat. Durant then left Golden State to play for the Brooklyn Nets.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr recently spoke about Durant’s time with the organization.

“Those years were incredible,” Kerr said. “I loved coaching Kevin. I think that last year that he was here, he was visibly wanting to move on. We could feel it, and that was his choice as a free agent. Everything that he gave to us and brought to us. We will be thankful for that forever.”

The friction between Durant and Warriors veteran Draymond Green has been well documented, but how much it impacted Durant’s decision to leave is unknown. Kerr also reiterated that Durant’s desire to leave was not something that was kept secret.
“You can tell when somebody is happy or not… It was obvious to everyone that Kevin just needed a new challenge,” Kerr said. “He was looking to move on.”
Despite his rocky departure, the Warriors were one of the greatest teams of all time when Durant was in town.
