While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry said that LSU athletic director Scott Woodward will not be involved in the school’s search for a new head coach. He joked that he’d rather let President Trump do it.
“Maybe we’ll let President Trump pick it,” Landry said. “He loves winners. You know, I’m not going to be picking the next coach, but I can promise you we’re gonna pick a coach and we’re gonna make sure that that coach is successful.”

He criticized Woodward heavily for the handling of Kelly’s tenure and his contract. He also stated that the LSU Board of Supervisors will find the next head coach.
“We have a $53 million liability. I believe that we are going to find a great coach… the board of supervisors are going to come up with a committee and they’re going to find us a coach.”
Former LSU coach Ed Orgeron said on Wednesday that he “would love” to return to the program, but no official details of LSU’s coaching search have been released.
