Popular rapper Toosii has reportedly left the LSU Tigers football program to continue his music career, according to head coach Lane Kiffin.

Kiffin recently appeared on the In the Bayou with Tyrann Mathieu podcast and said that Toosii, whose real name is Nau’Jour Grainger, left the team partially due to the fact that he recently signed a deal with a gambling company.

“I think he did, he signed with like one of the, I don’t know what they’re called, the gambling company thing where you do the commercials for him and stuff, and that shouldn’t work in the NCAA, you know,” he said. “So he went back to his professional career.”

Both the rap and college football worlds were caught off guard when Grainger joined the Tigers as a wide receiver back in March, but Kiffin said it was anything but a publicity stunt.

“He is an awesome person, figured out life, going through a lot of stuff like a lot of us, in a really good spot, and he just wanted to try. … It wasn’t a stunt at all. He really wanted to see if he could do it, and I like how he impacted some of our guys.”

While he never got the chance to take the field for an official game on the college football stage, Grainger’s 3.4 million monthly listeners on Spotify are likely overjoyed that he’s back to making music.
