The way Lonzo finally overcame his troublesome knee was by receiving knee cartilage in a transplant, which occurred two years ago. Yesterday, Lonzo met the family of Alex Reinhardt, whose knee cartilage donation aided his recovery from injury.
At tonight’s Bulls game, Lonzo Ball is hosting the family of the donor for his knee transplant surgery.

Alex sadly was a deceased donor, as he passed away at age 20 in February 2023. Angie Reinhardt, Alex’s mother, spoke about her late son.
“It’s been extremely emotional,” she said. “So much happiness comes with it, too. All of the people that are donor recipients of Alex’s, we’re just blessed. We’ve had mothers from some people that have said things. Now we get to meet Lonzo. It’s just a blessing to be able to watch people do well with their knees or anything because of Alex. Of course, we wish he was here.”
Lonzo’s decision to host Alex Reinhardt’s family was a heartfelt and generous gesture. He deeply recognizes the profound impact of Alex’s knee cartilage donation on his career and expresses genuine gratitude for this life-changing gift.
