The Minnesota Timberwolves dealt Julius Randle in part of a three team trade involving the Chicago Bulls and Brooklyn Nets according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Randle and the No. 28 pick in the NBA Draft will be dealt to the Nets for the No. 33 pick with Brooklyn shipping center Nic Claxton to the Bulls. The Bulls and Nets had the most cap space heading into free agency with the Nets now taking on $33 million of Randle’s contract for next season.

Minnesota now receives flexibility from offsetting Randle’s money which will help it retain key pieces such as Ayo Dosunmu who it acquired from Chicago back in February. It also creates a $15.1 million non-taxpayer mid level exception along with a $33.3 million trade exception for it to further add to the roster around Anthony Edwards.

Randle was a key piece of Minnesota’s front court on its run to the Western Conference Finals in 2025, but showed limitations during the 2026 postseason despite solid production. Through his two seasons with the franchise, Randle appeared in 148 total games averaging 20 points, 6.9 rebounds and 4.9 assists.
