Knicks will visit White House marking first NBA team under Trump’s presidency

Since 2017, but not between 2021-2024, no NBA champions have visited the White House for a traditional celebration with the President. However, the New York Knicks and James Dolan have just broken the streak and accepted Donald Trump’s formal invitation.

Considering the relationship between President Trump and Knicks owner, James Dolan, the news does not come very surprising. Dolan has publicly advocated for Trump and described him as a personal friend for over three decades. Meanwhile, the players on the roster have mixed feelings regarding Trump’s administration.

For instance, Josh Hart notably called Trump a “dumbass” following the 2020 election. New York’s fanbase has also expressed visible displeasure with the President, booing him during Game 3 of the Finals (the only game the Knicks lost after winning 13 straight). Dolan personally invited Trump to watch the game with him.

Every previous champion during Trump’s presidency has either declined the invitation, been uninvited, or stated there were scheduling issues. The visitation date has yet to be announced, but it will be interesting to see the dynamic of this event.
