Ed Orgeron is back in Baton Rouge.
The legendary LSU figure is returning to the Tigers coaching staff as a special assistant to recruiting and defense, the school announced late Wednesday night.

Orgeron reunites with long-time colleague and friend Lane Kiffin, who he coached with previously at USC and Tennessee. The pair first met 25 years ago on Pete Carrol’s staff at USC where Orgeron made a name for himself as an elite recruiter and defensive line coach.

His first shot as a head coach came in 2005 where he coached Ole Miss for three seasons. But he would later prove to be a strong option as an interim option, where he would fill in with the Trojans after the firing of Steve Sarkisian leading the team to a 6-2 record through the final eight games of the year.
Orgeron would later get another shot as an interim in 2016 with LSU and would earn the full time job which ultimately resulted in a national championship in 2019. Overall, Orgeron spent six seasons as the Tigers head coach posting a record of 51-20 but would be fired in 2021 after back to back seasons without a winning record.
Since then, Orgeron has enjoyed the break but has always shown interest in returning to his hometown team. He will now get that opportunity alongside Kiffin to kick off a new era of LSU football in 2026.
