A grand jury in Hamilton County, Tennessee has officially indicted former NFL linebacker Darron Lee on a murder charge in the death of his partner.

The state will reportedly pursue a conviction on a first-degree murder charge, which could result in a life sentence. Hamilton County District Attorney Coty Wamp said that a decision has not been made on whether or not to pursue the death penalty.

Lee is accused of killing 29-year-old Gabriella Perpetuo back in February. Prosecutors allege that he messaged ChatGPT, asking about what kind of injuries would be consistent with a hard fall in the shower.

He was on probation at the time of his arrest after being charged for three alleged assaults in a separate domestic violence incident involving his mother and the mother of his child.

Medical examiners determined the Perpetuo’s cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries. Her autopsy report listed a number injuries, including fractures and stab wounds.

Her family has since filed a separate $50 million wrongful death lawsuit against Lee.

The 31-year-old was drafted out of the first round by the New York Jets in 2016, playing one season there before playing one season with the Kansas City Chiefs and one with the Buffalo Bills.
