Denver Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper was arrested for the second time this month on Thursday, this time on multiple charges in violation of a protective order that was filed against him.

He was first arrested last Thursday after an alleged altercation with his girlfriend. Both he and his girlfriend were charged with two counts of domestic violence and one count of misdemeanor criminal mischief.

According to 9News.com, Cooper was arrested again last night after allegedly violating a protective order that was put in place preventing him from contacting his girlfriend.

He now faces additional charges, including two domestic-violence charges, one charge of harassment and one charge for violating his protection order.

Prior to the second arrest, head coach Sean Payton said the team will stay up to date, but isn’t getting in the way of a league investigation.

“The league obviously will be very much involved in that. We’ll stay abreast, but much like you all. I think that’s where it’s at. We just go from there. … We’ll stay as informed as possible. We’ll follow the league’s guidelines, and I’m sure a lot of that will be led by the local authorities’ guidelines. We’ll pay attention to all of it.”

After Cooper was arrested later on Thursday night, the Broncos released a statement on Friday morning.

It’s currently unclear if the NFL plans to punish Cooper, but it certainly has the power to penalize him for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

Cooper was drafted out of the seventh round in 2021 by the Broncos and is entering his sixth season in Denver. In 2025, he ranked second on the team with eight sacks on the season.
