He was arguably the most natural scorer of the basketball we have seen in this generation, but now he wants to step into the business acumen of the game.

NBA legend Carmelo Anthony wants to be an NBA owner

Carmelo Anthony was a walking double figures machine for 19 seasons in the National Basketball Association. He should be inducted into the Hall of Fame at some point as a 10-time All-Star and former league scoring champion. Anthony is 10th all-time for scoring in the NBA, totaling 28,289 points.

He understands everything about the game at a high level, and the 40-year-old wants to give that experience to fans and the next generation from a different perspective. Most athletes have an aspiration of owning a team and Anthony is no different.

He made his pitch on his 7PM in Brooklyn about why he wants to be an owner.

“I want to buy the Wizards, first of all,” Anthony said.

“I would be a great owner. I am a former player, I understand players, personnel, being strategic, and how to build teams. I also know what I don’t know. You have to put people in those positions … president, GM, you put all the basketball acumen in those positions. Then, you cover that with business minds. The business mind can never question the basketball mind, but there has to be a connection between the two. A lot of owners don’t put that work into creating fan experiences. You have to tap into the community. Let’s get back to having former players back and having these experiences.”

Melo knows the game, but he also knows what is attractive to the fans. It would be fun to see him implement his ideas as an owner if he were to be successful in buying the Wizards. Anthony would increase tickets sales and have people aware all in on Washington making a leap up as a franchise.

He is going through ideas right now, but Melo as an owner has a nice ring to it.
