Jose Luis Rodriguez III, the San Antonio Spurs fan who suffered severe head injuries while celebrating a playoff victory, has died at the age of 17, according to his family.

Rodriguez has been in critical condition ever since falling from a moving vehicle while celebrating the Spurs’ Game 6 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday.

After the teen was declared brain-dead, his family made the difficult decision to take him off of life support on Tuesday.

“He was ready to go out there into the world and make something of himself,” his aunt, Victoria Lopez, told KSAT. “It’s just a terrible tragedy.”

According to witnesses, Rodriguez was hanging out of a moving car during a “honking celebration” before falling backwards and landing on his head.

“Under the circumstances, I know he would want us to be religious, and he would want us to keep our faith,” his uncle Moses Rodriguez told News4SA.

“Everyone please be careful out there. Stay in your cars. If you’re in a vehicle wear your seatbelt.”
