The Austin Reaves show was back on Monday night. This was one day removed from a 51-point masterpiece in the Los Angeles Lakers’ victory Sunday over the Sacramento Kings.

Last night, the Lakers hosted the Portland Trail Blazers, and Reaves dropped 41 points, but this time, it wasn’t enough. LA fell 122-108 to Portland, thanks to 25 points from Deni Avdija and 24 from Jrue Holiday.

After the game, Lakers head coach JJ Redick spoke about the lack of a true ball handler being the main reason why the Lakers lost.

“Well, first half, they played the five on our five. To start that third quarter, we had said, whoever the five is guarding, be a pressure release, and just didn’t do a good job of that during the first quarter,” Redick said.

“They basically were cross-matching. Jrue [Holiday] did a good job, à la Draymond Green, of just screwing the game up. And there wasn’t another guy to bring the ball up. So, it’s just circumstantial.”

Hopefully, Luka Doncic will return soon for LA to help give Reaves some help bringing the ball up the court. Once LeBron James returns, we’ll finally see how good this team really is.
