The Vancouver Canucks have selected center Caleb Malhotra third overall. The Canucks hired his father, Manny Malhotra, as head coach on June 1.

Malhotra recorded 84 points in 67 regular-season games for the Brantford Bulldogs and saw his name climb the draft boards with his impressive 26-point playoff run.

He is considered a well-rounded player who projects as a great second-line center thanks to his defensive tools. Although he is considered more of a two-way forward, his offense shone in the latter half of the season.

Malhotra is a younger 2008-born player, giving scouts reason to believe his offense has more room to grow. The skating isn’t quite where it needs to be, but the hockey IQ is more than enough to make up for it.

Malhotra is committed to Boston University for the 2026-27 season.
