Lane Kiffin has always been notorious for messy breakups, and he added another one to the legacy last year when he left Ole Miss for LSU right before the start of the College Football Playoff.

The contention with the move was how it would not only impact which players would leave the program with him, but also which coaches would be leaving as well.

It put many members of the team in difficult situations, which is a major problem new Rebels head coach Pete Golding had with Kiffin.

“My issue with Lane was what he did to the other people around him, the position they were put in and the perception of what it was,” Golding said to On3 on Monday. “I just told him, ‘I’m not going to sit here and tell you I can respect that because I don’t. I can understand the competitive part, but not the rest of it with the players and other people in the building.”

Golding was hired by Kiffin at Ole Miss and was the defensive coordinator for three seasons before being named the head coach ahead of the playoff.

After taking over, with several members of the staff leaving with Kiffin, Golding solidified the team and helped spark a run to the semi-final where it narrowly lost to Miami 31-27 in the Fiesta Bowl.

Golding now takes over with a full offseason under his belt and a roster looking to prove itself to the country.
