San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich will reportedly be sidelined indefinitely after suffering a health issue on Saturday, according to NBA insider Shams Charania. Assistant Mitch Johnson is expected to be the interim head coach during Popovich’s absence.
The undisclosed health issue occurred before Saturday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves and he was not able to coach the matchup, with Johnson stepping in for him.

The Spurs went on to win the game 113-103, and veteran Chris Paul lauded Johnson for his performance.
“Mitch did a great job, man,” Paul said after the win. “I think our whole coaching staff [did]. Things happen within this league all the time and just like with the players, it’s next man. So, shout out to Mitch, he did a great job tonight.”
Popovich has been with the Spurs for nearly thirty years and has the most wins ever by a head coach with 1,391.
