The LSU Tigers are firing men’s basketball head coach Matt McMahon and bringing back a familiar face as his replacement.

According to multiple reports, Will Wade is leaving NC State after one season and returning to LSU, where he coached from 2017 to 2022.

Wade leaves the Wolfpack after just one season and a 20-14 record. Their campaign ended with a First Four loss to Texas.

He is now set to return to the school that fired him in 2022 after evidence was brought to light that implicated Wade in recruiting and bribery violations.

This took place before schools were allowed to pay recruits and players for their name, image and likeness.

Since Wade’s departure, McMahon has struggled to lead LSU to success. The Tigers had a 60-70 overall record under McMahon and only had one season above .500. They finished this season with a 3-15 record in conference play.

Wade went on to serve a 10-game suspension at McNeese before an impressive two-year run saw the Cowboys post a 50-9 overall record. He capped off this stint with a first-round victory over Clemson in the NCAA Tournament in 2025.

This impressive run helped him land the NC State job last season.

With the transfer portal set to open up next month, we’ll soon be getting a clear indicator of how many players buy in to Wade’s return to Baton Rouge.
