New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel finally spoke to the media on Tuesday and quickly addressed the major controversy regarding himself and NFL insider Dianna Russini.
“I’ve had some difficult conversations with people that I care about, with my family, the organization, the coaches, the players. Those have been positive and productive. You know, we believe in order to be successful on and off the field, you have to make good decisions. That includes me, that starts with me. We never want our actions to negatively affect the team. You never want to be the cause of a distraction. And when I — those are comments and questions that I’ve answered for the team, with the team, we’ll keep those private and to ourselves.”
Vrabel spent nearly three minutes on his opening statement just a few weeks after photos surfaced showing him and Russini hugging and interlocking fingers at a resort in Arizona.
The situation has been one of the biggest sports stories of the last few weeks. Vrabel and Russini initially laughed off the photos as meaningless.
After The Athletic opened an investigation into Russini, she resigned from her position.
Just days ago, the NFL decided not to investigate Vrabel in regards to the league’s personal conduct policy.
Notably, Vrabel’s statement to the media on Tuesday contained no specific admissions, confessions or apologies.
