It’s transfer season in college basketball, and the transfer portal is more chaotic now than ever.

The North Carolina Tar Heels landed their first portal commitment under head coach Mike Malone on Monday, and it’s a big one.

Virginia Tech transfer guard Neoklis Avdalas officially committed to the Tar Heels, per On3’s Joe Tipton.

Avdalas is a 6’9” freshman that averaged 12.1 points, 3.1 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game for the Hokies this season.

He’s a skilled scorer and playmaker with positional size that can’t be taught. His shooting splits aren’t excellent but they only improved over his freshman season.

Avdalas is a great slasher that can get to the rim with ease, while possessing the basketball IQ and vision to make plays out of those drives. He’ll fill a major role that the Tar Heels need filled.

Malone had very little time to prepare for the transfer portal, but his first pick-up is a good one.

James Parker contributed to this story.
