The Pittsburgh Steelers and cornerback Joey Porter Jr. are far apart when it comes to negotiating a contract extension.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers are not prepared to pay the price tag which the top corners in the NFL have heralded in recent years.

“They haven’t sourced the idea, but I don’t think they’re prepared to pay him the amount some people think he is worth,” Gerry Dulac wrote.

Since being selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Porter is yet to make a Pro Bowl throughout his three seasons in the NFL. Through his 47 games wit the franchise he has recroded 165 total tackles, three tackles for loss, 31 pass deflections and three interceptions.

Rams cornerback Trent McDuffie headlines the current market for the top cornerbacks in the league as he signed a deal worth $31 million per year, with Colts cornerback Sauce Gardner and Texans cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. each earning $30 million annually.

Porter certainly won’t receive an offer of that size, but where to place him still appears to be a struggle for both negotiating parties.
