The NBA hosted a great slate of games on Christmas Day. One of the most anticipated games was between the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder and the Victor Wembanyama-led San Antonio Spurs.

In a shocker, the Spurs defeated the Thunder 117-102 in Oklahoma City. What made it most shocking was the fact that this was San Antonio’s third win over OKC this year. The Thunder have only five losses total.

De’Aaron Fox led the charge for the Spurs with a game-high 29 points. Wembanyama, coming off the bench amid minutes management, contributed 19 points and 11 rebounds, dominating the paint despite limited playtime.

The Spurs shot an efficient 53.6% from the field while holding the Thunder to just 38.9%, marking OKC’s first loss on their home floor at the Paycom Center (second home loss, counting their loss in Las Vegas, when considered the home team). Reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 22 points but struggled, shooting 7-19.

As the Spurs celebrate, questions swirl about whether they’ve become the Thunder’s kryptonite in an emerging rivalry.
