Sidney Crosby to miss four weeks after being placed on IR

Sidney Crosby will miss at least four weeks after being placed on injured reserve by the Penguins after suffering a lower-body injury. He did not play in the semifinal win over Finland or the gold medal loss to the USA.

Crosby initially suffered the injury in the second period of Canada’s quarterfinal win versus Czechia. He would later leave the game, shaking his right leg. After undergoing an MRI, Crosby was ruled a game-time decision for the semifinals and the gold medal game, but did not play in either. He finished the Olympics with two goals and six points in four games.

Losing Crosby is a tough blow for the Penguins. The 38-year old captain leads the team with 27 goals and 59 points through 56 games. The team currently sits second in the Metropolitan Division, eight points behind the Hurricanes. The Penguins have not made the playoffs since 2022.

The Penguins begin their post-Olympic schedule Thursday at home against the New Jersey Devils.
