Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson will undergo thumb surgery and be placed on injured reserve after exiting Sunday’s Week 8 game against the Buffalo Bills following one snap.

Jackson missed Weeks 5, 6 and 7 with an ankle injury. The Ravens went 1–2 in those games, losing to the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals.

Ravens head coach Jessie Minter confirmed postgame that Jackson requires surgery on his thumb and will be placed on injured reserve. That designation requires him to miss at least the next four games. When asked whether the injury could end his season, Minter responded, "We'll see."

Jackson has one year remaining on his contract after this season. The Ravens discussed a contract extension with him this offseason but did not reach an agreement. His contract includes a clause preventing the team from applying the franchise or transition tag after the 2027 league year begins. It also contains a no-trade clause.

Jackson’s projected 2027 salary cap number is $84.34 million.
