Shai Gilgeous-Alexander capped off his nearly perfect season by winning the championship. He scored 29 points while adding 12 assists.

In the series, SGA put up averages of 30.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.9 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game. This was good enough to earn SGA the Finals MVP.

With his championship win, Finals MVP, regular season MVP, and scoring title, Gilgeous-Alexander has joined an elite group of players.

SGA’s name next to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O’Neal, and Michael Jordan is something he’ll likely cherish.

“It’s hard to believe that I’m part of that group,” SGA said. “It’s hard to even fathom that I’m that type of basketball player sometimes. As a kid, you dream, every kid dreams. But you don’t ever really know if it’s going to come true.

“I’m just glad and happy that my dreams have been able to come true. That’s a ‘thank you’ to everyone who’s been in my corner and helped me get there. Wouldn’t have been able to get here without them. They know who they are. It’s a win for the family.”

Maybe Gilgeous-Alexander will add his name to that list again next season. As for now, SGA did pass Jordan on a list, making him number one.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s 32.7 points per game average during the regular season surpasses Michael Jordan’s 32.6 points per game in 1992-93, making it the highest points average for a player to win an NBA championship.
