San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman Trent Williams believes the 2027 season will be his last. Williams recently signed a two-year $50 million deal to return to the Niners and when asked this week if the end of that contract will mark the same for his career he responded, “Yeah, probably.”

He would later slightly walk back his initial statement to leave the door open a crack for what may come down the line.

“Obviously, I can’t tell the future,” Williams said according to ESPN. “I don’t know. I’m still a competitor. It’s hard not to compete when you can. So we’ll see.”

Williams is entering his 17th season in the NFL and has been one of the top offensive linemen in the league since being drafted by the Washington Redskins in 2010.

For Williams, the biggest hold up from providing a defined answer is the fear uncertainty with the idea of closing this chapter of his career.

“It’s scary,” Williams said. “I’m toying between the idea of going until I can’t no more and just leaving while I’ve still got some good product left and not getting ran out the league. It’s been a long time, and I have a daughter who was born a few months before I got drafted. I’m going on year 17. She’s turning 17. As a father, you feel like, ‘Dang, I kind of missed her whole life until adulthood.’ … She [will go off to college in a couple years. I want to be there and be accessible, and I don’t want to be that father that shadows the kids. I want to be close. You know what I mean? I want to be close. I don’t want to be somewhere at a joint practice.”

Even as he creeps towards 40-years old, Williams is still among the elite offensive linemen in the NFL and will be a key piece in the Niners push for a Super Bowl this season.
