Russell Wilson weighing retirement as he considers broadcasting career

NFL quarterback Russell Wilson is now contemplating retirement and a subsequent career in the broadcasting world, The Athletic reported on Friday.

According to The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand, CBS’ Sunday pre-game show “The NFL Today” would be his most likely destination if he does decide to end his playing career. But he also reportedly met with the New York Jets recently to discuss being the backup QB for Geno Smith.

The report comes after former NFL QB and CBS analyst Matt Ryan left the network to become president of football for the Atlanta Falcons. Wilson would reportedly take his spot if a deal is made.

This wouldn’t mark Wilson’s first appearance on TV and wouldn’t even be his first time working with CBS. He’s worked with CBS as recently as last season, when he came on during the New York Giants’ bye-week.

Wilson put together a Hall-of-Fame worthy career after being selected in the third round of the 2012 draft. He went on to play a decade for the Seattle Seahawks, leading them to two Super Bowls and winning one in 2014.

He was then traded to the Denver Broncos in 2022, but couldn’t sustain his elite play.

Wilson played in Denver for two seasons before playing a season for the Pittsburgh Steelers and playing for the Giants last season.
