Portugal and Croatia matched up in a thrilling battle on Thursday, fighting for a spot in the 2026 World Cup Round of 16. While Croatia took the lead in the first half, Cristiano Ronaldo came up big for Portugal in the second.

In the 68th minute, Ronaldo found the net on a penalty shot to score his first-ever knockout stage goal and tie the match 1-1. He hit his iconic “Siu” celebration after scoring the equalizer.

As Portugal’s momentum slowed down, Ronaldo was subbed out in the 81st minute. The tie carried over into stoppage time before Gonçalo Ramos scored on a terrific header to give Portugal the lead in the 94th minute.

Croatia didn’t give up, though, pushing the pace into the 100th minute and beyond. A huge goal in the 103rd minute was called off due to an offside ruling.

Moments after play resumed, Portugal escaped with the victory.
